Runar Helgi Vignisson compiled in 2006 for the Ministry of Fisheries information about fishermen in Icelandic literature, functions and forms: it can be said that "the cultural meaning of a fisherman in this country is ours, which relies heavily on fishing, which is nothing more than made up image, a kind of fiction, with bases in reality in certain ways an offspring. "The absence, both in reality and in literature; there are various story elements, but few of them are actually set at sea. Various stories are analyzed, such as Þraugagóðir á Raunastund in by Steinar J. Lúðvíksson; Hafborgu by Njörður P. Njarðvik; and Með Mannabein í maganum by Baldur Gunnarsson.
